FOX Restores The '24' Franchise

"Eighteen months was just enough time for Jack Bauer to hibernate.

Mr. Bauer, the counter-terrorism agent character played by Kiefer Sutherland on the Fox drama “24,” returned in top form on Sunday night, drawing 12 million viewers to a two-hour movie titled “24: Redemption.”"

Considering '24' has been off the air since May 2007, these ratings were encouraging to me. Apparently, a lot of people missed Jack!

Kiefer Sutherland On Charlie Rose - 11/20/08

Kiefer's appearance on Charlie Rose's program is my favorite appearance he makes on the talk show circuit. This interview is always interesting because it's usually at least 30 minutes uninterrupted where they go in-depth about '24' and the Jack Bauer character.

Kiefer's always very interesting to listen to in this format.

Enjoy!

Kiefer also made an apperance on Conan O'Brien's program.

The Buffalo News:

24 Redemption Movie Premiere - New York (11/19/08)

Tick Tock. The "24" clock is counting down the hours once again -- and ET was on the red carpet for the much-anticipated return of the hit series, starring Kiefer Sutherland. ET also spoke with Jon Voight, who opened up about daughter Angelina Jolie's growing family!

Sutherland, who plays the show's star Jack Bauer, had this to say about the night's big premiere:

"To the fans that waited this long, we really hope they enjoy it," Sutherland said.

Even More Reviews...I Can't Keep Up!

Here are two more reviews from Reuters & Variety:

Reuters.com:

"Still, one question keeps nagging. If a burning hot machete applied to the side of his face won't make Jack tell where the African kids are hiding, how in the world did the legislative committee compel him to testify when he was similarly opposed to talking? Is torture by hot air more effective than torture by hot metal?"

Full Review Here:

Variety.com

"That's a lot of weight to drag around, and "24" fares best when the show wriggles out from under it -- playing like a thriller, as the movie does, with Sutherland barking lines like "Put down the weapon!" Carlyle also delivers a topnotch performance, as does a teeth-gritting Powers Boothe in a cameo as the outgoing president."

...And the "24: Redemption" Reviews Keep Rolling In

As we get closer to the premiere of "Redemption" (only 3 days away!), more reviews are popping up. Here are a couple just published today:

From Palm Beach Post.com:

"A more subdued Sutherland (he’s not in full kick-butt mode) remains sensational in a role he was born to play. The Emmy-winning actor can still say more with a blank stare or a one-word answer than he can with 10 pages of dialogue."

From MyFoxNY.com - Preview of '24: Redemption'

"One of the things you've seen over the last 7 years with Jack Bauer has been the terrible decision that he's had to make: Is it worth losing these 10 lives to save the hundred lives over here?" Sutherland says. "There's very few people in our world who have to make those horrible choices."

IF Magazine Interview With Howard Gordon - 11/18/08 (Part 1)

IF Magazine just posted an exclusive interview with Howard Gordon, Executive Producer and writer for "24". This is will be a three-part interview.

Excerpt:

iF: It was really refreshing to see Jack Bauer back in action after so long. With all the crap that’s been going on in the world, there was something comforting about having Jack take down the bad guys again.

GORDON: I felt the same way. His heroism is intact.

24: Redemption Soundtrack On iTunes

The Original Television Soundtrack for "24: Redemption" composed by Sean Callery is now available for purchase on iTunes.

I have already downloaded it and what I've heard so far is awesome! I believe it is some of the best work Sean Callery has ever composed. The African music influences really make it special.

Great work Sean!

Robert Carlyle Gives The Lowdown On His Role In "24: Redemption"

Robert Carlyle (Carl Benton) interview excerpt from TVSpy:

"Kiefer was technically your boss in this too, of course. How did you find that?

In a way, I guess he was my boss, but he wouldn’t have got away with anything like that with me, believe me! I know him too well. It sounds like a cliché but Kiefer’s an absolute gentleman. He’s a lovely, lovely guy. Anybody who’s met him will tell you the same thing. He’s a terrific guy."

Jack Bauer Of '24' Seeks 'Redemption' In Movie

Excerpt From USA Today Article (11/17/09):

"Jack hasn't been back for 18 months. That's as long as Agent Bauer spent in that Chinese prison after the show's fifth season.

For die-hard fans of Fox's 24, the wait amounts to their own form of torture, so many will savor Sunday's 24: Redemption (8 ET/PT), a two-hour real-time prequel to Season 7, due Jan. 11. The movie is designed to fill in the gaps and restart the franchise."

Kiefer Sutherland Says Africa "24" Event Changed Perspective

"Sutherland took many of the photographs in "Redemption," and said he was moved by his time away from home. "There were so many things I experienced in South Africa that are so vastly different from my life experience here," he tells Fox News. "I just loved photographing the people. For instance, you would have these children that would exhibit this unbelievable joy and friendliness, and yet they’re living in this abject poverty, and that kind of really shatters your sense of perspective about everything that we have here."

Kiefer Sutherland Covers TV Guide

Here is an excerpt from the upcoming cover story from TV Guide featuring Kiefer Sutherland (Jack Bauer) of "24":

"After way too many delays, 24’s long-awaited Season 7 arrives January 11 on FOX, but there’s relief coming in the form of 24: Redemption, an exotic two-hour prequel movie that puts Jack Bauer back where we like him: on the clock and under the gun. “With the prequel it’s like we’re saying, ‘Hey, remember us?’’ Kiefer Sutherland tells TV Guide. “You want to make sure the interest is still there. So we thought we’d offer a little taste – an appetizer – before the big feast to come.”

More Photos From The Upcoming "24: Redemption" Exhibit

Actor Robert Carlyle rehearses his first big scene with Kiefer Sutherland during a glorious break in the inclement weather in South Africa. This photograph and the other roughly four dozen that are part of the exhibit at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, have been reproduced in medium-to-large-scale prints for display. The exhibit runs from Monday through Jan. 11.

Life is rarely boring for agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland, who does most of his own stunts), and the excitement followed him abroad for "24: Redemption." The photo was selected from about 35 that were taken of the scene by various cast and crew.

For the South Africa shoot, the cast and crew of "24: Redemption" brought their own cameras and a hobbyist's enthusiasm for capturing anything and anyone who might wander into view, in this case series star Kiefer Sutherland.

On the first day of a 15-day shooting schedule, two local South African stuntmen wait patiently in the rain for the next take. Persistent rain and incredible winds dogged the production for much of the cast and crew's time there.

These cars submerged in a rain-filled lake at the bottom of an abandoned quarry were supposed to be used as set dressing, but unfortunately the location was obscured by fog and rain on both days that producers tried to film there.

In this photo taken with an infrared camera by producer Michael Klick, agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) is on the run during the filming of "24: Redemption." The South Africa location actually is standing in for a fictional foreign country in the throes of a violent military coup.

Director Jon Cassar, center, director of photography Rodney Charters, right, and camera operator Guy Skinner set up a shot during the filming of "24: Redemption." The photo is one of hundreds taken by cast and crew during the on-location shoot, and they were culled to the 48 on display in the exhibit, which runs through Jan. 11.

Kiefer Sutherland and Siyabulela Ramba prepare for a scene during filming of "24: Redemption," in Cape Town, South Africa. The two-hour special, which airs Nov. 23 on Fox, will kick off Season 7 for the hit series, but this photograph is one of 48 taken by cast and crew that will be on display beginning Monday at Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills.

These photos are from an LA Times article dated November 9th. Here is an excerpt from the article:

"When Kiefer Sutherland and the crew of Fox's "24" traveled to South Africa earlier this year to shoot the two-hour opener to Season 7, they brought cameras and a hobbyist's enthusiasm for capturing anything that wandered into view.

The results -- literally thousands of digital photos -- have been culled into an exhibition that will open Monday at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills. Featuring about 48 medium- to large-scale prints, the show contains many behind-the-scenes shots of Sutherland working on "24: Redemption," which airs Nov. 23."
