24 Day 8: Coming Soon To Sky1 HD and Sky1

Starts Sunday 24 January

When we last saw Jack Bauer (Golden Globe® and Emmy® winner Kiefer Sutherland), his life was hanging in the balance. But, true to form, the hardest man in television is back for another heart stopping, action-packed series of the award-winning US drama series 24. With a relocation to New York, the return of CTU and new exciting cast additions, this season looks set to follow Day 7 in being one of the best yet when it returns to Sky1 HD and Sky1 on Sunday 24 January.

At the start of 24’s new, eighth season, Bauer is hoping for a quiet life with his daughter Kim (Elisha Cuthbert, Captivity) and his granddaughter. However, a group of terrorists have other plans and an assassination plot against a visiting Middle Eastern leader Omar Hassan (Anil Kapoor, Slumdog Millionaire) is uncovered. It’s not long before Bauer is called upon to help prevent Hassan’s murder.

Kiefer Sutherland said: “Season 7 and 8…are really connected together. The storylines from Season 7 really do play all the way through into Season 8. The setup for [this season] is the most realistic political thing that I think we've ever done since we started the show. This season is more grounded in what possibly could happen. There's a sense of reality that almost brings it back to Season 1.”

CTU is back in action and based in New York, headed up by Special Agent Brian Hastings (Mykelti Williamson, Forrest Gump). He is joined by brainy bombshell Dana Walsh (Katee Sackhoff, Battlestar Galactica) and her fiancé, head of field operation Cole Ortiz (Freddie Prinze Jr, I Know What You Did Last Summer).

Returning for Day 8 are CTU devotee Chloe O’Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub, Little Miss Sunshine), Renee Walker (Annie Wersching, General Hospital) and President Allison Taylor played by Cherry Jones (Ocean’s Twelve) fresh from her Emmy® win for her work on Day 7. Plus, villainous ex-president Charles Logan (Gregory Itzin, The Mentalist) is set to return when Taylor enlists him to assist with an escalating crisis. “The opportunity for these two remarkable actors to share the stage was simply too compelling to pass up,” said executive producer Howard Gordon of the unison of the current and previous presidents.

24 Day 8 looks set to add another enthralling, shock-filled chapter to the series when it launches with a double bill on January 24 at 9pm on Sky1 HD and Sky1.

Viewers can bring themselves up to date with a 24 Day 7 catch up, from Tuesday 29 December at 8am through to Wednesday 30 December at 8am.

'24' #8 In Top TV Shows Of The Decade By The Hollywood Reporter

8. 24 -- Top TV Series of the Decade

Fox | 2001-present

Robert Cochran and Joel Surnow conceived this series when the idea of a terrorist attack that would bring down the World Trade Center towers seemed inconceivable. But when the unthinkable happened, America rallied around indefatigable agent Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland) and some super-suspenseful, action-packed, provocative stories. Even the real CIA took notes. With an uncanny knack for selecting guest stars and a real-time format, "24" found injected shots of excitement to the small screen.

Sanjay Kapoor lands up in Los Angeles, not to meet his brother Anil but to meet the star of the TV series, 24

Sanjay Kapoor is a fan of the American TV show 24 and of its hero Keifer Sutherland, in particular. With elder brother Anil Kapoor now a part of the popular series, there was no way Sanjay could skip a chance to land up on the sets in Los Angeles.

Hooked
"I am a huge fan -- of the show and Keifer. I have watched all the seasons and have been hooked on for the past seven years," he says.
While Anil was shooting in Los Angeles, Sanjay was in New York. "As I was already in the US, I had to make it a point to fly down and meet Sutherland."
But it was not that easy for the actor-turned-producer. "Over there, you cannot just land up on the sets and take pictures and meet the stars. You have to obtain prior permission and more importantly, the star has to be shooting on the day you are on the sets."

Just my luck
As luck would have it, Sanjay landed on the sets when the Keifer was shooting. "Of course, he knew me as Anil's brother and that I was also an actor. But it was a moment to cherish. All these years I had watched him on the show, and now I was meeting him in person!"

Sanjay chatted with the 24 star about the show and about acting. He was thrilled when Keifer agreed to pose for keepsake photos with him. "They don't usually pose for pictures on the sets just like that. They need to be informed in advance. But for me, everything was going just right. In fact, he was doing a photoshoot that day. That is how I landed up with him on the scooter!"

Kiefer also gifted Sanjay a poster of the show with his autograph; now the actor's prized possession.
"Keifer asked me for how long I would be in LA. I told him, 'now that I have met you, my work is done!' The next day when Anil landed on the sets, he asked him about me, Anil told him I had already boarded a flight out of LA! In fact, Anil even told Keifer that he had specially flown down to meet him and not his own brother!"

What is 24?
24 tells the story of Jack Bauer (played by Keifer Sutherland) at the Los Angeles Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU). The show first aired on November 6, 2001 and currently airs on AXN. The longest-running espionage series in television history, 24 is broadcast in the semblance of real time with each season depicting a 24-hour period in the life of Bauer, who works with the United States government as it fights fictitious terrorist threats to the US.

JACK IS BACK - ALMOST!

Get ready, our favorite rebel counterterrorist expert returns for what will no doubt be another really bad day when the eighth season of 24 premieres in a two-night evening event beginning January 17, 2010. In the new season, Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) will work on his relationship with daughter Kim (Elisha Cuthbert), meet a new head of CTU (played by Mykelti Williamson) and befriends his granddaughter. Will he show that softer side of himself to Agt. Renee Walker (Annie Wersching), who's also returning? We'll have to wait and see.

FOX’s ‘24’ Announced As First Recipient Of EMA Green Seal

WASHINGTON, DC -- Green Seal, Inc. and the Environmental Media Association (EMA) announced today that FOX’s “24” will be the first production to receive the new EMA Green Seal Award. The new standard for green productions includes auditing, rigorous standards and is designed to promote sustainable practices in the entertainment industry.

EMA established the EMA Green Seal in 2004 as an award that recognized and praised film and television productions that incorporated green initiatives into production practices. Green Seal, Inc. and EMA recently officially partnered to continue their groundbreaking work in greening the entertainment industry. The revised EMA Green Seal program allows EMA and Green Seal, Inc. to simultaneously promote sustainable production methods and highlight those in the industry who make strides in incorporating these practices into both film and television production.

“We are so excited that ‘24’ is the first series to receive the new EMA Green Seal,” said Debbie Levin, President, EMA, in a statement to Access Hollywood.
“The producers, with the support of FOX and the cast, have been leaders in sustainable productions for many years, so it makes sense that they would be the first to qualify for the new EMA Green Seal.”

“I am so proud of the strides we’ve made in reducing the production’s carbon footprint,” commented ‘24’ executive producer and showrunner Howard Gordon in a statement to Access. “Our cast and crew’s commitment to this effort has been extraordinary, and what surprised many of us was how easy it was to make small but really meaningful changes to the production process. We hope our example inspires other series to do the same and are happy to share the strategies we’ve learned with the dozens of TV productions shooting around town.”

“The producers of ‘24’ are to be commended for their commitment to sustainable productions, and we hope they will serve as a model as we begin to roll out the new EMA Green Seal,” said Green Seal CEO Dr. Arthur Weissman.

AIF Honors Anil Kapoor (Omar Hassan, '24'')

Los Angeles, California – Two of the greatest talents to represent Indian entertainment were honored on November 15th here at the Omni Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles at a gala benefiting social and economic change in India.

Entitled “India Rising,” Hollywood stars Kiefer Sutherland (24), Noureen DeWulf (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past) and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes) made their way to the American India Foundation’s Sixth Annual Southern California Gala, Bollywood star Anil Kapoor and Indian tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain were both recognized for their significant contributions to charity and philanthropy.

“This is an organization which we should be honoring,” Hussain said of the AIF organization. “I feel so embarrassed they are honoring us when we should be doing so much for them.”

Considered by many to be the “chief architect of the contemporary world music movement,” Hussain committed himself to AIF’s cause, telling the crowd of about 500 that as long as he can perform, he will donate his musical talents to the organization for charitable concerts.

“An organization like (AIF) helps to raise the awareness of education and technology … and the empowering of women in India,” the musician added. “We are a great country; we are one of the largest poor countries. I am blessed and honored they have asked me to come here and be a part of this.”

A tabla maestro, Hussain was recently humbled at the 2009 Grammy Awards, nabbing the award for best Contemporary World Music Album for his collaborative effort with “Global Drum Project.” Working with Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Nigerian percussionist Sikiru Adepoju and Puerto Rican jazz percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo, the collaborative project allows Hussain to work with percussionists around the world.

Considered a child prodigy, Hussain began touring the world at age 12 and founded his own record label, Moment! Records, to further original collaborations in contemporary world music. In addition, Hussain has also taught music around the world, including world renowned universities such as Princeton and Stanford, and starred in several music documentaries.

Meanwhile, Kapoor was presented with an award by AIF, with his 24 co-star Kiefer Sutherland on hand to present him with the honor.

“No one can ever get used to this,” Kapoor said of his steady dose of honors and awards since starring in Slumdog Millionaire. “They (AIF) are doing a great job. I am very humbled by this honor.”

Starring in more than 100 Indian films in his career and winning several awards along the way, Kapoor donated his salary from Slumdog Millionaire to Indian children’s charity. The Bollywood actor has also supported many other causes by attending charity galas and promoting goodwill for needy people in India.

Organized by AIF, the gala event raised money to foster the group’s vision to help build an India “where all people can gain access to education, health-care, and livelihood opportunities.” To help achieve its philanthropic agenda, AIF “mobilizes resources in the United States and invests these (resources) … for the marginalized in India.”

Founded in 2001, AIF has worked with more than Indian non-government organizations, enlisted almost 200 Service Corps Fellows for ten-month projects, and introduced technology “to improve the education of (more than) 600,000 students.”

“India Rising” was produced by Dulari Amin and Phenomenon.

First Look: Freddie Prinze, Jr. In '24'

Back in May, we found out that Sarah Michelle Gellar hubby Freddie Prinze Jr. would be a big part of the upcoming season 8 of Fox’s 24 (which premieres Jan. 17), but now we’ve got an EW exclusive first look at one of his early scenes with Keifer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer.

The former teen heartthrob plays Cole Ortiz, head of field operations for a reconstituted CTU in New York City, where the action takes place in the upcoming season. “We’ve attempted to call him a young Jack Bauer, but he really is his own character,” says 24 executive producer Howard Gordon.

Much of Prinze’s storyline concerns his character’s romantic relationship with Dana Walsh, an agent at CTU played Katee Sackhoff. (Sci-fi nerds, try to contain yourself!) “We’ve got a really interesting story to tell with these two,” adds Gordon. “What we learn in short order is that she may not be who she says she is, and it has to do with her past, which comes back to haunt her in the present. This wonderful Boy Scout is about to learn that the woman who he’s about to marry—she’s kind of the perfect girl—has secrets. In the tradition of 24, work and personal lives don’t mix.”

But now to the big question: Does he get along with top-dog Jack Bauer? “The dynamic is that, from the very first moment, Cole is enamored with Jack,” Gordon reveals. “But he has a few encounters with his hero that make him question that—sometimes you don’t want to meet your heroes. But the two wind up having a great deal of respect for each other.” But is that a revelation? Anybody who watches 24 knows you better have respect for Jack Bauer—or, well, you know.
